Heswall residents will finally be able to use their library again next week. It played a vital role as a Covid testing centre for two years, but there was some frustration that it has taken so long to re-open as a library two and a half months after the testing centre ceased operating.
Councillor Allan Brame asked a question about it at Thursday's meeting of the Tourism, Communities, Culture & Tourism Committee and received this reply:

'Heswall Library was not handed back to the Library service until w\c 9th May. The delay was caused by the Testing Site contractor not being able to remove all of the equipment before then, despite pressure from the Library Service and Corporate colleagues.

There were a number of repairs and renewals that needed to be addressed directly by the UK Health Security Agency who oversaw the Testing Site, and their contractor as part of the lease agreement. Also colleagues from Asset Management have needed to be involved for other minor repairs/cleaning and also responding to ventilation requirements.

The Library staff have also worked hard to return the site to a library as it has involved a lot of book stock work and movement of shelving/IT etc.

Heswall Library will reopen on Tuesday 21st June and details of the new opening hours will be on the website/social media.'
